WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW...
All students know that what they don't know CAN hurt their test grades. But when professors talk to each other they often say, "what hurts you is not so much what you don't know, but the things you 'know' that aren't true." Those things can confuse you so much that you fail to understand the true information you're given. The purpose of this web site and of the book Child Development: Myths and Misunderstandings is to help you figure out which common beliefs about children are wrong. Any good child development textbook will give you good information and protect you from what you don't know-- the goal here is to help you correct the things you know that aren't true. Fortunately, this is something you can learn to do by yourself.
